05/08/2009 - Miami, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Miami Dolphins' home has been renamed LandShark Stadium after an agreement between owner Stephen Ross and singer Jimmy Buffett.
Buffett, a south Florida resident, is famous for his song "Margaritaville" and has a new beer with Anheuser-Busch named LandShark Lager.
"Jimmy Buffett is known and loved worldwide for his music and for his portrayal of the tropical lifestyle that is synonymous with south Florida, and we are honored to have him bring his unique culture to our organization," said Ross. "It's an exciting day for our franchise and our fans; this partnership will help create a memorable game-day experience at our home games for everyone."
Financial terms for the naming rights were not disclosed.
This marks the fifth different moniker for the Dolphins' home, which first opened in 1987 and was named for owner Joe Robbie. It was then Pro Player Stadium after a now-defunct apparel division of Fruit of the Loom and was Dolphins Stadium before the 's' was dropped in 2006.
Buffett's partnership has been rumored for some time and it has also been speculated that he could join Ross as a minority owner of the franchise. Ross bought a 50 percent share of the team and the stadium in February 2008 from H. Wayne Huizenga, and now owns 95 percent of the team.
LandShark Stadium will be the site for the Super Bowl in February and is also the home of Major League Baseball's Florida Marlins.
